In the 37th National Student Research Conference (OTDK), TDK papers and authors (in the case of multi-author TDK papers, all authors) may participate that meet the conditions specified in the General Call for the 37th National Student Research Conference. Details are provided in Supplement 2 of the General Call for the 37th OTDK.
Study circles from cross-border universities and colleges can participate in the 37th OTDK under the same professional conditions as those in Hungary. Details are available in the General Call of the 37th OTDK. The conference is also open to secondary school students in Hungary and across borders who present their research results at conferences of higher education institutions or national high school science student conferences (for details see Supplement 4 of the General Call for the 37th OTDK) and are nominated for the OTDK. A detailed description of the participation of secondary school students is available in the General Call of the 37th OTDK.
A thesis produced in the course of continuous TDK activity during BA and BSc education, can be entered to the 37th OTDK, if it meets the requirements of the Call and its Supplements and has been presented at a student research conference either during the BA/BSc or the subsequent MA/MSc training and has there been delegated to the OTDK.
Supplement 1 of the Section Call contains the formatting rules to be followed and the elements of the evaluation, with the following details:
During registration, students must indicate which session they consider most suitable for presenting their TDK paper, as well as any additional sessions where their TDK paper might also be appropriately presented.
The fundamental rules for the establishment of the final session assignment are included in the General Call of the 37th OTDK. The Technical Sciences Section Committee may, based on the number of TDK papers received and their topic, merge some of the planned sessions/topics or create additional ones (so that the TDK paper may be assigned to a different session than the one indicated by the author during registration). The condition for starting an independent session is the receipt of at least 6 TDK papers in the given topic, on the condition that at least 5 of the 6 to 15 papers will be presented at the 37th OTDK. If the number of TDK papers to be presented in a given session is fewer than 5, that session may be merged with another session at the discretion of the Chair of the Technical Sciences Section Committee. The organizing institution, with the agreement of the Technical Sciences Section Committee, reserves the right to redirect submissions with content that does not align with the Technical Sciences Section’s field of study to another session of the 37th National Student Research Conference that is more appropriate for the topic, with thanks for the application.
The decision on the preliminary sessions and the classification of the TDK papers will be made by the Technical Sciences Section Committee. Students will be informed of this decision via the OTDT online system by 26 February 2025 at the latest. Authors may file an objection against the primary session assignment of their TDK paper by February 28, 2025, by sending a request with a proposed reassignment to the central email address of the Technical Sciences Section. The organizers, taking into account the limited organizational possibilities, will proceed with the request as specified and inform the author of the decision. The Technical Sciences Committee will make the final decision on the sessions and the assignment of the TDK papers by March 3, 2025, at the latest.
Following the student research conference, the TDK paper can be uploaded, and the section can be selected within 30 days from the receipt of the email specified in point 4 of Supplement 2 to the 37th OTDK General Call. Participants who will be eligible to submit a TDK paper at a student research conference held within 30 days before the application deadline for the Technical Sciences Section of the 37th OTDK must upload their TDK paper to the OTDT online system by the application deadline. ATTENTION! Uploading a TDK paper does not automatically constitute registration for the 37th OTDK. Applications must be submitted during the registration period, following the steps described in the next section. A TDK paper can be entered for the OTDK only once and in one section.
Registration period: 15 November 2024 – 15 January 2025 (Wednesday), 16:00 (CET)
Registration deadline: 15 January 2025 (Wednesday) 16:00
Students’ tasks during this period are:
A common expectation for documents signed by hand or electronically:
a) a document authenticated using the Authentication Verification Service (AVDH, at https://magyarorszag.hu/avdh), using the Client Gateway or any other document authenticated using an enhanced security qualified electronic signature service
OR
b) a printed and hand-signed document may be accepted in scanned PDF format.
Uploading the documents of the student research conference and sending them to the OTDT Office according to point 3 of Supplement 2 of the General Call for the 37th OTDK.
Deadline for institutional and faculty TDT Chairs to upload documents to the OTDT online system: 20 January 2025, 16:00 After the deadline it will no longer be possible to upload application documents in the OTDT online system. We are unable to accept TDK papers that do not meet the requirements outlined in the Technical Sciences Section Call; such applications will be rejected. Applications submitted individually are invalid.
The registration fees for the 37th OTDK will be determined at a later stage, subject to the availability of funding.
A certificate of recognition will be awarded to all authors and supervisors attended in the OTDK and presented their TDK papers. In addition, a maximum of one third of the papers presented may be awarded one of the first, second and third places per section, taking into account that a maximum of one application per session may be awarded first place. The Section Panel may award a special prize to those papers that do not achieve ranking but are judged by the Session Panel to be worthy of recognition on the basis of their professional merit, and which are judged to be immediately behind the winning applications. The authors of the winning papers and those of the papers receiving the Special Prize of the Session Panel will each receive a certificate for the ranking or the Special Prize of the Session Panel.
The total number of winning papers and papers awarded the Special Prize of the Session Panel may not exceed 50% of the total number of papers presented in a section. Further rules on prizes are set out in Supplement 3 to the General Call.
The authors of TDK papers that have been awarded first place at the national conference may apply for the Pro Scientia Gold Medal, provided they meet the additional criteria set out in the call. Details are given in Supplement 5 of the 37th OTDK General Call.
We invite and welcome all students dedicated to the field of science who, through their outstanding scientific work, contribute to the reputation and recognition of technical sciences. We welcome distinguished representatives and researchers of the field to support the scientific development of the younger generation with their high-quality professional insights.

Note: If any interpretational issues arise between the Hungarian call and its English translation, the Hungarian version shall prevail.
The language of the OTDK and of the TDK papers is Hungarian. Exceptions may include TDK papers that obtained eligibility for the 37th OTDK before the publication of this call. For these papers, the abstract must be uploaded in Hungarian and the oral presentation must be held in Hungarian. For international students studying in Hungary, the language of the conference is English. Students from non-Hungarian-speaking cross-border higher education institutions can also submit their paper in English.
All TDK papers submitted to the OTDK are subject to a plagiarism check, which is evaluated by a three-member special committee set up by the Technical Sciences Section Committee, which reviews the results of the plagiarism check one by one. We specifically draw the attention of applying students to the fact that plagiarism is not permitted in any form; even one’s own work may not be cited without proper referencing (prohibition of self-plagiarism). TDK papers that are proven to infringe copyright will be excluded from the OTDK by the OTDT, with simultaneous notification to the nominating institution.
Further content requirements:
The submitted TDK paper must be the independent work of the students. The TDK paper should present the key literature in the topic area and justify the topic’s importance and interest. It must include the research aim and methodology. The TDK paper should detail the results obtained by the students and explain how these were evaluated. Students should compare their results and findings with those found in the literature, and in a separate section, they must clearly distinguish their own work or analysis, particularly how it diverges from group research results if conducted in a team setting.
The use of AI-based software is not prohibited; however, the specific parts where it was used and the purpose of its use must be indicated in a footnote in the relevant part.
General requirements:
TDK papers that do not meet the minimum page limit set by the Technical Sciences Section or exceed the maximum number of pages cannot be uploaded to the OTDT online system.
TDK papers must be uploaded in PDF format. The maximum file size is 10 megabytes.
Generally recommended form: Font: Times New Roman, font size: 12 pt, line spacing: 1.5, margin: 2.5.
Section-specific requirements:
Minimum number of pages for the TDK paper: 20, maximum number of pages: 60.
The Section Committee informs potential applicants that for the 38th OTDK in 2027, only papers not exceeding 50 pages in length will be eligible for submission.
Uploading supplementary documents is permitted. The supplementary document must be uploaded as a single file, with a maximum size of 10 megabytes. Referencing method: as appropriate to the field.
Only the main text needs to be uploaded to the OTDT online system (the other data: names of authors, institution, supervisor, etc. are generated by the online system). The language of the abstract is Hungarian, for non-Hungarian native speakers English. The length of the abstract is minimum 500 and maximum 2500 characters.
The acceptance of the TDK paper is decided by the OTDT Technical Sciences Section Committee as follows. If a TDK paper does not pass the OTDT plagiarism check, the OTDT Technical Sciences Section Committee will exclude it, and the organisers of the Technical Sciences Section will inform the students and their institution accordingly. TDK papers submitted on topics outside the technical sciences field will be redirected to the appropriate section by the Technical Sciences Section Committee, with the Technical Sciences Section organisers notifying both the students and the OTDT.
The institution hosting the Technical Sciences Section will provide a computer and projector for presentations, while any additional, specific requirements must be discussed in advance by the submitting institution with the Technical Sciences Section organisers.
TDK papers within the same section will be evaluated by all three members of the Session Panel.
Evaluation criteria for the written component:
In the written evaluation, each panel member ranks the papers from 1 to n, where n is the number of TDK papers in the section. The best TDK paper should be ranked first. The online system then calculates the average ranking from the three reviewers.
The written evaluations (without ranking information) will be made publicly available in the OTDT online system by the organizers of the Technical Sciences Section five working days before the conference.
Each TDK paper must be presented at the conference in a 15-minute open presentation, followed by a 5–10-minute discussion.
Evaluation criteria for the oral presentation:
The ranking for the oral presentation follows a similar process to the written evaluation. The final ranking is then determined by averaging the rankings from both the written and oral evaluations, with any ties adjusted as needed.
